"Francisca Valenzuela is a 23 year old singer-songwriter. She has joined the Chilean music scene with a new and unique style.She plays the piano and the guitar. She composes music, writes lyrics and sings in English and Spanish. She sings of love, of loss, of gender issues discrimination, the abuse of power and heartbreak. She mixes a little bit of jazz, a little bit of rock, a little bit of pop.In 2007, she launches her debut CD “Muérdete la lengua” (Bite your tongue) with 11 songs - 10 in Spanish and one in English – all written and composed by her.

Once released, the local press calls her 'the new musical revelation' and 'the princess of rock'.Her CD quickly escalates to the Top 10 at music stores and Rolling Stone Chile includes it -as number 16- in its “50 best CD’s of 2007” (in an international list!). By the beginning of 2008, the CD goes gold in Chile. Her three music videos have been playing on the MTV Latin America and have been listed in Total Request Live, MTV Central.

Francisca was born and raised in the US. At 12, she moved to Chile. Since an early age she has been interested in music and art. When she was 10 she started playing acoustic guitar and classical piano. Shortly after, she was already writing songs on both instruments. In parallel to her music abilities and activities, Francisca begins to write poetry and short stories. In the year 2000, a collection of her poems and two of her fiction pieces are published. The former, “Defenseless Waters” (El Andar books) is published in the US –all illustrated by Francisca- and is prologued and praised by the writer Isabel Allende. The two short stories Abejorros/Madurar (Bumblebees/Coming of Age)” (Plaza y Janés books), are published in Spain and also distributed in Latin America.As part of the publication of “Defenseless Waters”, Francisca does a promotional book tour around California where she travels with her keyboard and guitar, playing her songs and reading her poetry!

Once in Chile, Francisca participates in local high school music festivals as a solo artist with her own songs. In 2004, during her senior year, she begins to play in underground music bars and jazz clubs in Santiago with her keyboard and guitar. By then in 2006, she uploads her songs on the internet (www.myspace.com/franciscavalenzuelam), makes a blog and begins to develop her project with the help of cyberspace and the digital world. She records her first single “Peces” (Fishes), and it begins to play at local radio stations. During 2007 she forms her own band and, independently, records her debut album. By May of that year, she signs for distribution with Feria Music Chile. The Muérdete la lengua CD reaches stores in Chile in June 2007".

"Francisca Valenzuela, autora y compositora de 23 años, se ha incorporado al panorama musical actual con una propuesta diferente y un estilo propio. En 2007, lanza al mercado chileno su disco debut “Muérdete la lengua” –con 11 canciones compuestas y escritas por ella. Compone, escribe y canta en inglés y en castellano. Canta sobre amor, desamor, discriminación, pérdida y abuso de poder. Mezcla el pop, el jazz, el rock. La prensa la llama la “artista revelación” y la “princesa del rock”. Su disco rápidamente se establece en los Top 10 de ventas del ranking nacional. El portal musical Blondie lo selecciona dentro de los 10 mejores discos del año. La Revista Rolling Stone lo clasifica en puesto 16, entre los 50 mejores discos del año 2007, y alcanza disco de oro en Chile a principios del 2008 – menos de un año de lanzado su CD al mercado.

Desde entonces, Francisca realiza numerosas presentaciones en vivo a lo largo de Chile y además tiene oportunidades de tocar en el Vive Latino Chile 2007, compartir escenario con Julieta Venegas y los Bunkers, Los Jaivas e Inti Illimani e incluso cantar para 60 mil personas en el Estadio Nacional como parte de la Teletón. Sus primeros años transcurrieron en EEUU. Desde entonces y a muy temprana edad, manifiesta interés por la música. A los diez años ya toca guitarra acústica, estudia piano clásico y da sus primeros pasos en la composición.

En paralelo, desarrolla capacidades literarias escribiendo poesías y cuentos los cuales despiertan interés de dos editoriales para su publicación. El año 2000 se publica en EEUU la recopilación de sus poesías “Defenseless Waters” (editorial El Andar Books), destacado por la escritora Isabel Allende, y “Abejorros/Madurar” (editorial Plaza y Janés), que se distribuye por España y Latinoamérica y está a la venta actualmente en librerías chilenas. Como parte del lanzamiento de su libro “Defenseless Waters” realiza una gira promocional por California. Aquí presenta también sus propias composiciones con teclado y guitarra. Residiendo en Chile, Francisca participa en festivales interescolares como cantautora solista con sus temas originales y ya en el año 2005 entra al circuito “jazzero” o “underground” de Santiago, interpretando sus temas originales, acompañándose con su piano o su guitarra. Sube sus canciones en Myspace (www.myspace.com/franciscavalenzuelam) y su primer single “Peces” empieza a sonar en la radio. Durante el año 2007, forma su banda y graba su disco debut “Muérdete la Lengua” en forma independiente. A mediados del mismo año licencia el CD a Feria Music. El CD se empieza a vender en Chile a partir de Junio del 2007".
